In Bashkiria, customs officers stopped smuggling of potent substances

The Bashkortostan Customs Service has initiated criminal proceedings against a group of persons for the illegal transportation of the potent substance sibutramine, which is banned in Russia.
Employees of the operational and investigative department of the customs revealed a group of persons involved in smuggling of potent substances. Customs officers detained a parcel from Kazakhstan with weight loss drugs containing sibutramine. It turned out that the goods were ordered by a resident of Ufa, who was in collusion with persons whose identity is now being established.
The number of capsules seized from the parcel amounted to more than 500 pieces, the total mass of sibutramine exceeded 125 grams.
«On the fact of illegal movement of a potent substance Bashkortostan customs initiated criminal proceedings under p. «c» part. 2 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty in the form of imprisonment for up to 10 years with a fine of up to one million rubles, », − reported Deputy Head of Customs Rinat Galiev.
Currently, the case materials and seized goods are transferred to the investigative bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
In October of the current year, employees of the operational and investigative department of Bashkortostan customs suppressed the activities of a criminal group that organized a stable channel of illegal international mailing of sibutramine from Kazakhstan for the purpose of its further sale on the territory of Russia. More than 8 thousand tablets were seized. The total mass of smuggled goods exceeded 2 kilograms.
Attention!   Sibutramine  is included in the list of potent substances approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation from 29.12.2007 № 964. Illegal transfer of ADD, including in the form of dietary supplements and medicines, across the state border of the Russian Federation can be qualified as a crime under Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of potent substances).
